Being a “lifestyle” photographer means that I get the opportunity to create and photograph stories over a broad spectrum of brands, from mountain adventures to Napa vineyards. While my work is usually in the outdoor adventure world, I often am asked to cross over into a more traditional definition of “fashion” photography (we in the outdoor adventure world don’t like to admit that we’re really fashion shooters with a different backdrop).
Recently I was contacted by a San Francisco based footwear company called Rothy’s. They specialize in a very green, low-waste shoe production technique and generally make cute flats for cute babes. The brand is built on the backs of some of the finest fashion brand engineers in the Bay and I was ecstatic at the opportunity to work with such a talented and creative team.
Over two days we styled, lit and photographed countless setups between Rothy’s headquarters’ studio and the urban wilderness of downtown San Francisco. The Rothy’s team, our stylist and our model, my assistant and I all worked tirelessly to bring the most out of every moment. It was a beautiful collaboration and I couldn’t be happier with the final work:

Pretty thrilled to announce the launch of a video project that I completed for San Francisco based Faraday Bikes recently. They’ve had a rather exciting acquisition by PON and needed content that was deeply ”lifestyle” for a marketing initiative. Faraday already has a ton of beautiful assets to sell their beautiful bikes from, but this was a call for something really conceptual. We met up at their office to chat about the kinds of people that use their product and what their product does for their consumers. The take away was that the Faraday pedal assist bike isn’t just about commuting - it’s about accessing life. Eventually we drilled down to a collaboration with a startup friend of theirs over at Feral Wetsuits.
We put together a rather aggressive plan to produce this short video, as well as a full shot list of photography. We brought on a trusty creative friend of my to DP the video portion and I put on my director cap while also shooting all the photography. It was an enormous day and we pulled a ton of amazing content out of every scrap of sunshine we got that day (I have the lingering farmer’s tan to prove it).
I hope you all enjoy this quirky little look at the life of Alex from Feral:

It had been a little while since I’d had the opportunity to work with Marmot, the California based outdoor apparel brand. Since moving up to Northern California (close to their headquarters) I’ve been excited about the opportunity to get them back in front of my camera. This time when they reached out to me I was happy to discover that the shoot was pretty much in my back yard.
While I love traveling for photography, there’s something special about having a big brand in your neighborhood that can structure a shoot that allows you to sleep in your own bed at night. That luxury aside, we tucked into a LONG sunrise to sunset day to photograph some of their spring apparel.
The concept had us deep in the woods by sunrise and sunburnt by the end. A perfect day out, if you ask me. I loved getting to work with the diversity of locations and light that we encountered, and to explore the product in this truly lifestyle approach.
Keep an eye out for a whole surf adventure story on the Marmot channel soon!
